The Markha Valley of Ladakh is a perfect getaway for trekkers with a combination of witnessing the beautiful Himalayan landscape & exploring local village life and culture. The trek route passes through some amazing villages and landscapes. Among these villages are our green villages of Sara and Umlung where we introduced solar electricity and are now bringing tourists to these solar powered homestays. Take this amazing adventure with us and bring back memories for lifetime.

Day 1: Acclimatization at Leh

Relax full day after pick up from airport.

Day 2: Get introduced to Ladakh

Before we step to villages of Ladakh lets know about Ladakhi heritage and Buddhism. We'll visit the important sight-seeing places around Leh.

Day 3: Hike to Yurutse

Our first homestay village for this is the unique and beautiful Yurutse. We will hike through the stunning landscape of Hemis National Park to reach this majestic homestay village with just one house.

Day 4: Yurutse to Skyu

It will take about 3 hrs of climbing in thin air to reach the Ganda-La pass at 4980 mtrs. Further it will take 2-3 hrs of descend to reach our green village, Shingo. We'll halt here for lunch before continuing our downhill trek to Skyu which is about 2 hours away.

Day 5: Skyu to Sara

A beautiful 5-6hr trek alondside the Markha river stream takes you to village Sara. Sara was solar electrified by our GHE initiative in 2015.

Day 6: Sara to Umlung

Today will be a long day of trekking. We'll trek for about 3 hrs to reach village Markha where we'll have our lunch. After another 4 hrs of trekking we'll reach our next green village Umlung. Our team installed a solar micro-grid at Umlung in 2015.

Day 7: Camp at the green meadows of Nimaling

Another beautiful day of trekking through the valley and then the flat lands. Today we will reach Nimaling which is an enriching camp site.

Day 8: Climb the Gongmaru-La pass

Today will the toughest day of the trek when we'll climb 1500ft to reach the Gongmaru-La pass that is at 17000+ feet. We then descend to village Shang Sumdo. From here we can drive back to Leh using the road.

Day 9: Goodbye Ladakh

Airport transfer as per your flight schedule.

  • Airport transfers in a private vehicle

  • Lodging in Leh for 4 nights in our guest house/hotel

  • Logistical costs for local sight-seeing in Leh on Day2

  • Accommodation in homestays/house tents during the trek

  • All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in Leh and during the trek

  • Support staff cost (trek leader, guides, cooks, porters and horses to carry your luggage)

  • Medical kits, carried by trek leader and guides

  • National Park permits and all Govt. taxes
