Sung Village is situated in the mountains, with stunning views and friendly local people. Home to the Dao Tien ethnic group and about 70 households, this village is famous for its Shan Tea which is a traditional green tea. Only a short work away is Sung Cave and trekking routes provide great views of the rice fields and Da River. Also in this village, visitors can purchase authentic Dao Tien textiles and if they are lucky, even see how they are made.
Xuan couple has always cherished their traditional occupation of farming and very recently started hosting tourists to make them part of the couple’s daily life. They set up comfy beds and amenities so that their guest find comfort in their traditional Dao House. Their specialty is the traditional knowledge about farming and Bodhi tree that is culturally significant to the region.
Dao cuisine is quite special, so the serving dishes have been adjusted to suit for tourists. In addition, in Sung, Vietnamese and Western dishes are combined to create familiar meals.
Sung village has many activities to explore and relax: visit Sung cave, visit tea hill and join in tea making process, visit brocade group and join in the traditional costumes making process, herbal bath and foot bath, art performances.

Guests like to eat our Ladakhi food. They say it is delicious, even when it is prepared by an elderly ama (mother) like me. I always make sure I serve them the cleanest and healthiest food. My husband is a copper artist. When guests leave us, they say ‘Julley’, and hug us. It makes us feel happy.
I became a Mountain Homestay Host in 2018, and I have hosted many travellers since then. Running a homestay has helped me and my family a lot. Not only is the solar set up in our house useful for us, but even travellers prefer to stay in our homestay because of it.
The training we got in astronomy turned out to be a life-changing experience for our village. I felt happy and proud while mapping the position of the planets and sharing the secrets of the universe with the tourists. Tourists told me that even they didn’t know so much about the dark skies!
