Sumur Homestay

A spectacular village in the Siachen belt, Sumur lies at a critical juncture that connects some of Ladakh’s most popular attractions — Hunder, Pangong Lake, Turtuk, the hot springs of Panamik, and the most recent addition to every intrepid traveller’s bucket list, Warshi, the last village before the Siachen Glacier. Over the years, Sumoor’s strategic location has ensured that everyone from traders on the ancient Silk Route to 21st-century travellers on a voyage of self-discovery have come knocking on its fabled doors. Home to the well-known Samstanling Monastery with the majestic Karakoram range as its backdrop, this charming village is also a place where you find the most authentic Ladakhi cuisine, grown organically in greenhouses and cooked without modifying the real traditional recipes.

Hear from communities

  • Guests like to eat our Ladakhi food. They say it is delicious, even when it is prepared by an elderly ama (mother) like me. I always make sure I serve them the cleanest and healthiest food. My husband is a copper artist. When guests leave us, they say ‘Julley’, and hug us. It makes us feel happy.

  • I became a Mountain Homestay Host in 2018, and I have hosted many travellers since then. Running a homestay has helped me and my family a lot. Not only is the solar set up in our house useful for us, but even travellers prefer to stay in our homestay because of it.

  • The training we got in astronomy turned out to be a life-changing experience for our village. I felt happy and proud while mapping the position of the planets and sharing the secrets of the universe with the tourists. Tourists told me that even they didn’t know so much about the dark skies!

Absolutely amazing hospitality. Great homestay and great ambience. We got the house of Ladakhi local lifestyle and we felt very happy. We were pleased to know that we were their first guests. We wish Phunsukji and Diskitji all the best for this new endeavor.

I was the first-ever guest to Nubra Valley Homestays in Sumoor that MH has set up. The place is cozy, clean and the hosts are sweet locals treating us with respect, care, and warmth. Talk to them to know more about their lifestyle and the village, they will also take you for a ride if time permits.
