As its name suggests, Indus Riverside is located along the banks of the Indus River. Enjoy a cozy stay at Spituk Homestay, where you’ll be treated to stunning views of Leh city illuminated at night.
The word Spituk means exemplary. With a calming view of 11th century Spituk Monastery which is home to over 100 lamas, the homestay is located in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood alongside the mighty Indus River. Situated at a distance of 15 minutes from Leh airport the homestay is easily accessible by road. With Indus River and the Spituk Monastery as its backdrop, this charming village also acts as a key point which connects some of Ladakh’s most popular attractions — Leh City, Sangam (confluence of Indus and Zanskar river), Thiksey and the most recent addition to every intrepid traveler’s bucket list, Markha Valley situated at Hemis National Park.
Guests like to eat our Ladakhi food. They say it is delicious, even when it is prepared by an elderly ama (mother) like me. I always make sure I serve them the cleanest and healthiest food. My husband is a copper artist. When guests leave us, they say ‘Julley’, and hug us. It makes us feel happy.
I became a Mountain Homestay Host in 2018, and I have hosted many travellers since then. Running a homestay has helped me and my family a lot. Not only is the solar set up in our house useful for us, but even travellers prefer to stay in our homestay because of it.
The training we got in astronomy turned out to be a life-changing experience for our village. I felt happy and proud while mapping the position of the planets and sharing the secrets of the universe with the tourists. Tourists told me that even they didn’t know so much about the dark skies!
I enjoyed Spituk a lot. The family was really very fabulous. The Spituk Monastery was absolutely gorgeous. My favorite thus far. Really enjoyed the walk and picking the fresh mustard greens. Exactly what I like!
