Heshuk Eco Homestay

This eco homestay is located in Hemis Shukpachan village, one of the most peaceful and culturally rich villages of Ladakh. Surrounded by mountains and traditional homes, it offers a simple and immersive village experience.

The space

The stay is set inside a traditional Ladakhi house that is more than 200 years old. The home preserves old elements like traditional clothing, kitchen setup and utensils, giving guests a glimpse into the region’s past and way of life.

Stay

The room is simple and functional, suitable for up to three guests. It has two beds and an attached washroom with a western-style commode. During winters, a dry toilet is used. The room includes basic amenities, keeping the stay comfortable yet minimal.

Meals

Meals are freshly prepared using local and organic ingredients. Guests can enjoy traditional, Ladakhi and Indian dishes cooked by the host’s wife. Food is often served from the greenhouse, offering a farm-to-table experience.

Experiences

Guests can explore a range of cultural and natural experiences within the village. A short walk leads to a Buddha viewpoint overlooking the entire village, often used by wildlife spotters to observe animals like snow leopards, ibex and blue sheep.

The village is also known for wildlife experiences, especially for those interested in spotting Himalayan species. Guests can take part in a felting activity, creating small toys like snow leopards and ibex using local wool.

Other experiences include visiting the sacred Shukpa (juniper) grove, Dakmar Monastery and Chomo Nunnery. The host personally helps guests explore and understand these places.

Bathroom

The room has an attached western-style washroom for regular use. During winters, a traditional dry toilet is used. Basic amenities are provided.

Outdoor Area

The homestay is surrounded by village landscapes, open spaces and traditional homes. Guests can walk around the village, observe daily life, and enjoy the quiet environment.

Host

Your host, Tashi Dorjay, is 77 years old and has been hosting travellers for over 40 years. He speaks Ladakhi, Hindi and English. Along with his wife, who is an experienced cook, they offer a warm and welcoming stay rooted in local culture.

Good to know

This stay is best suited for travellers looking for simplicity, culture and a deeper connection with village life. The main road is about 7 km away, making the location peaceful and slightly remote.

Guest access

Guests have access to their private room, the greenhouse dining space and village trails. The host also assists in exploring nearby cultural and natural sites.
