Sakti Eco Homestay

Location

Located in Sakti Village near Leh, Sakti Eco Homestay lies approximately 47 km from Leh (around 1.5 hours by road). Positioned at the foothills of Chang La Pass, it is a convenient stop for travellers heading towards Pangong Lake or arriving from Manali. The homestay is situated close to Takthok Monastery, a historic monastery known for its rock-roof structure.

Sakti Village is located slightly off the main highway, offering a quieter setting while still remaining accessible to key routes. The area provides access to village landscapes, streams and nearby high-altitude passes.

The Space

The homestay is set within a traditional village environment and is part of a family home. Built with wooden interiors and local design elements, the space reflects everyday life in the village. It is surrounded by farmland and open areas, allowing guests to experience local living conditions and agricultural practices.

Stay

The stay includes private guest rooms within the host family’s home. Rooms are designed for functionality and comfort in a high-altitude setting. During winter, heating is provided using a traditional bukhari (wood stove).

Each room includes:

• Attached washroom (western-style in summer)
• Dry/compost toilet system used in winter
• Solar-heated hot water
• Basic furnishings suited for short stays

The setup is practical and aligned with local living conditions.

Meals

Meals are prepared using locally grown ingredients, often sourced from the host’s farm and greenhouse.

Guests are provided:

• Breakfast and dinner
• Local dishes such as khambir and skyu
• Simple home-style meals

Guests may also participate in farm-to-table activities, including harvesting vegetables used in meals.

Bathroom

Each room has an attached washroom. Western-style toilets are available during summer months. In winter, dry or compost toilets are used due to freezing conditions. Facilities are basic and adapted to the climate.

The homestay is surrounded by farmland and village landscapes. Guests can walk through the village, visit nearby monasteries, explore streams and access local trails.

Host

Your hosts, Thinles Gyatso and Rigzin Dolkar, manage the homestay. Thinles Gyatso is a retired army veteran and is involved in farming and community life. The family hosts travellers while continuing their daily routine, offering insight into local practices, agriculture and village life.
