About your experience
Whispers of the Wild East is a slow-paced journey through parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, covering regions that are culturally distinct and geographically remote. The route connects rainforest landscapes, Buddhist settlements, indigenous communities and river valleys across the eastern Himalayas.
The journey begins from Dibrugarh in Assam and moves towards Miao, the gateway to Namdapha National Park, one of India’s largest protected forest regions. Along the way, the itinerary focuses on community-led experiences including local cuisine, interactions with tribal communities, monastery visits and traditional knowledge systems.
Accommodation throughout the trip is a mix of boutique homestays, locally managed hotels and regional resorts. The experience is designed for small groups and includes long road journeys through mountain roads, river crossings and forest regions. The pace allows time to understand the local lifestyle instead of only moving between destinations.
The itinerary includes interactions with Tangsa, Chakma, Tai Khampti, Idu Mishmi and Baghaniya communities. It also combines nature-based activities such as boat rides, wetland visits and forest exploration with cultural experiences including monastery visits, local food traditions, folklore sessions and handicraft workshops.

Itinerary
Arrive at Dibrugarh and begin the drive towards Miao in Arunachal Pradesh via the historic Stilwell Road. Miao acts as the gateway to Namdapha National Park and is one of the key entry points into the eastern Himalayan rainforest region.
During the journey, stop at Yumchum Village for a traditional Tangsa community welcome and interaction. Spend time understanding local lifestyles and food practices. A traditional Singhpo lunch is included during the route.
Overnight stay at a boutique homestay in Miao.
Accommodation: Boutique Homestay, Miao
Spend the day exploring Namdapha National Park, a biodiverse protected area known for tropical forests, river systems and varied wildlife habitats. The region is often referred to as one of Northeast India’s important rainforest ecosystems.
Visit Chakma Village during the day and experience traditional Chakma cuisine and local settlement patterns. Later, continue with exploration activities inside the Namdapha region and take a boat ride on the Noa Dihing River.
Return to Miao for overnight stay.

Begin the day with a visit to a GI-tagged carpet workshop in Miao to understand traditional weaving practices and regional handicrafts.
Continue the drive towards Namsai, a region known for its Tai Khampti Buddhist heritage. In the evening, visit the Golden Pagoda and attend the prayer session at the monastery complex. The architecture and monastery culture in this region reflect strong Southeast Asian Buddhist influences.

Drive towards Chowkham and begin the day with a visit to Parshuram Kund, an important pilgrimage site located near the Lohit River.
The day focuses on Tai Khampti cultural traditions including cuisine, local customs and community practices. Participate in cultural interactions and learn about food preparation techniques and traditional lifestyles. Later, visit Empong Monastery before returning to Namsai.

Travel from Namsai to Roing, located near Dibang Valley and the Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary region. The route includes views of mountain valleys, rivers and forest landscapes.
Visit the RIWATCH Museum to understand the cultural history of indigenous communities in Arunachal Pradesh. Later, interact with an Idu Shaman and learn about traditional rituals and oral knowledge systems practiced by the Idu Mishmi community. The evening includes a local art and craft exhibition experience at a café space in Roing.

Spend the day engaging with local communities and nature-based experiences around Roing. Visit a GI-tagged ginger farm to understand local agriculture and cultivation practices.
The day also includes a farm-to-table meal experience and interactions with members of the Idu Mishmi community. In the evening, participate in folklore sessions with local hosts and learn about oral storytelling traditions connected to the region. Visit Sally Lake during the day before returning for overnight stay.

Drive from Roing to Pasighat through river valleys and small settlements along the Dibang and Siang region. The route offers changing landscapes with dense greenery and river views.
In Pasighat, interact with Tina Mina, recognised as the first woman from Northeast India to climb Mount Everest. Visit Silluk Village, often referred to as one of Arunachal Pradesh’s cleanest villages, and learn about traditional healing practices followed by local communities.

Begin the drive back from Pasighat to Dibrugarh, crossing landscapes shaped by the Brahmaputra River system.
During the journey, stop at Bodak Village for a guided walking experience and visit Sirki Waterfall. In the evening, take a boat ride near Bogibeel to experience sunset views across the Brahmaputra River.

Start early with a visit to Maguri Beel, an important wetland ecosystem known for migratory bird activity and riverine landscapes. Take a scenic boat ride through the wetland region.
Later, visit a tea estate in Dibrugarh to understand tea cultivation and processing, followed by a tea tasting session. In the evening, interact with the Baghaniya community and witness cultural performances including the Jhumur dance tradition. There is also time for local shopping before returning to the hotel.

After breakfast, transfer to Dibrugarh Airport for your onward journey. Guests may either continue travelling in the Northeast region or depart for their next destination.

This journey involves long road travel through remote regions of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Some drives can take several hours due to mountain roads, changing terrain and weather conditions.
Accommodation is comfortable but simple in certain locations, especially in smaller towns and community-run properties. Facilities may vary between destinations.
