About your experience
An immersive, slow and meaningful day experience in the remote border village of Chushul, this journey takes you deep into the high-altitude landscapes of the Changthang region. Spend time with the Changpa nomads, known for herding the world-famous Pashmina goats, and experience their way of life in the vast Himalayan pastures.
From visiting their seasonal camps and understanding traditional herding practices to witnessing the delicate dehairing process of Pashmina wool, the day offers rare insight into a lifestyle shaped by extreme landscapes and resilience. You will also step inside a traditional yak-wool tent, share a simple organic meal and hear stories passed down through generations.
The experience also includes a visit to the historic Rezang La War Memorial and a chance to witness the unique ecology of the region, making it a powerful blend of culture, history and nature.

What To Expect
Travelers usually reach Chushul from Leh or via Pangong (about an hour’s drive). Since most guests already have their own taxis for this route, transportation is not included.
The experience lasts around 5–6 hours. You will drive into the pasturelands to meet the Changpa nomads, spend time with their families, sit inside traditional tents, and observe their daily life, including Pashmina herding practices. The interactions are simple and real, nothing staged.
A basic, home-cooked meal is served, often in the open or inside the tents. On the way back, you will visit the Rezang La War Memorial and, if you’re lucky, spot migratory birds across the wetlands.
This is a high-altitude, remote experience with basic facilities and changing weather, best suited for travelers open to raw, authentic cultural interactions.
Note: Foreign nationals can visit for the experience but cannot stay overnight in Chushul. Indian travellers may also opt for a homestay stay.
