About your experience
In the vast silence of the Nubra Valley, there lies a hidden lake known as Yarab tso (Lofan tso). Your journey begins beyond the village of Sumur, taking a quiet trail that climbs gently for 30 to 45 minutes. As you walk along the footpath, you can spot ancient petroglyphs etched into the stones dating back to 2500 BC, depicting stupas, ibexes and horses. For the locals of Nubra, this lake is not just a destination but a living spirit and a gift from the gods. The name Lofan translates to benefit of the heart, reflecting emotions and serving as a mirror for the soul. Beside the crystal pool stands a shrine dedicated to Kushwar, the spirit guardian of the waters. This is not just a hike, it is a pilgrimage through time where you can find serenity and experience a moment of deep clarity.

What To Expect
The land around the lake is silent and the air feels lighter as you climb. We request guests to walk gently and speak softly, as the lake is a place of meditation and purity where no prayers are even spoken aloud. Please avoid celebrating festivals or making loud noises to maintain the sacred balance of the area. The hike features a gentle climb and takes about 30 to 45 minutes one way. The archaeological remnants and rock carvings along the trail connect you to a lineage of humans who walked the same route thousands of years ago. Ensure you carry back any waste and let your camera click quietly.
